Supply Chain USA Virtual: Insights on the Main Trends, Challenges, and the Future of Supply Chain

On October 7-8th, 2020 I attended the Supply Chain USA 2020 Virtual, the gathering where CEOs & CSCOs from the largest companies in the world joined to discuss nowadays challenges and the future of supply chain industry.

The main stress was put on supply chain sustainability, agility, transparency, as well as pandemic challenges and learnings. The speakers from giants like DHL, UPS, Pfizer, Delta Air Lines, Mondelez and other companies delivered valuable highlights.

Peder Tuborgh, CEO, Arla Foods kicked things off with insightful conversation focused on sustainability and importance to "produce more with less energy," major role of technology in using a Data platform and benchmarking tools for his farmers tracking climate carbon levels.

It was good to hear the speakers collaborate on ideas for the future and discuss the last 6 months challenges on a variety of topics:

  • Sandra MacQuillan, EVP & CSCO, Mondelēz International, initiated insightful discussion of a strong evolving omni-channel supply chain;
  • Scott Price, President, International, UPS looked into the future, which is already here touting sensor technology, robotics, drones in the last mile and autonomous cargo delivery vehicles.

Other topics raised were:

  • Removing operational complexity and expanding digital offerings helps keep focus on customer-centricity;
  • Supply chain enhanced efficiency can be gained by digital transformation – find right technologies to enable supply chain continuity and replace the legacy systems;
  • The fulfilment strategy and last mile solutions should provide seamless end-to-end customer experience, with more urban node;
  • Data transparency helps make the supply chain strategy consumer-centric;
  • Predictive analytics  helps reduce costs and maximize customer services;
  • Putting sustainability in the center of the supply chain is key;
  • And many more. Come to exchange your thoughts at my LinkedIn.
