2021 – So Much to Be Proud of in a Year of Extraordinary Growth

2021 – So Much to Be Proud of in a Year of Extraordinary Growth

Revenues

We are on track to close this year with annual revenues of $290 million—a record 60% year-over-year increase. Almost 100% of this growth has been organic, with less than 0.5% attributable to the acquisition of Armenian software development company SFL. This growth has come from both preexisting and new clients. Our preexisting clients increased spending with us by around 40%, and we signed up 138 new accounts. Financial services grew 74%, followed by healthcare at 73%. We also saw renewed demand from our travel sector clients, with our travel practice delivering 42% growth. Not far behind, media and entertainment delivered 32% growth, while general delivery grew by an impressive 59%. For the tenth time, we were included on the “Inc. 5000” list, the most prestigious ranking of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies.

People

Equally impressive is the growth of our team. DataArt started 2021 as a 3,500-person company and ended the year as a 5700-person company — a growth rate of 62%. With the strength of our brand and our recruiting know-how, we were able to attract talented engineers in the most competitive and challenging environment we have ever seen. Meanwhile, our 89% retention rate remains among the highest in the IT services market.

But the growth in numbers tells only part of the story. We also continued to win awards and gain recognition as a great place to work. In addition to winning “Best Company Culture,” “Best Company for Diversity,” “Best Company for Women,” “Best Company for Work-Life Balance,” and “Best Company Compensation” awards from Comparably, we earned a Great Place to Work Certification, with 97% of our employees saying that DataArt is a great place to work (compared to just 59% at a typical U.S.-based company). Our Glassdoor rating remains exceptionally high at 4.6/5, the CEO approval rating is 100%, and 92% of reviewers report that they would be happy to recommend working at DataArt to a friend.

Partnerships

2021 also brought tremendous growth in our partnerships. We added many new partners, gained many new or upgraded competencies, and extended key partnerships into new regions of the world. With addition of partnerships with Adobe, Commercetools, Sqills, Domino Data Lab, Connex Partners, and Accern, we are now the proud partner of more than 50 companies.

Our new and upgraded competencies include: for Amazon Web Services, new competencies in CloudFormation, Lambda, DynamoDB, and API Gateway; for Google Cloud Platform, new competencies in Streaming Data Analytics, Modernize .NET Applications, Advertising & Marketing, Google Maps Platform, Media & Entertainment, and Google Cloud Databases, as well as a new specialization in application development; for Microsoft, new competencies in Gold Application Integration, Gold Cloud Platform, Gold Data Platform, and Silver Security, as well as new gold level designations in Cloud Productivity, Data Analytics, and DevOps; and for Salesforce, new competencies in Sales Cloud, Einstein, and Experience Cloud.

Geographical Expansion

Seizing on strategic opportunities for growth in 2021, we expanded our operations in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East and laid the groundwork for new operations in Latin America, which will soon include a development center in Montevideo, Uruguay. We opened an office in Dubai and established two development centers in Kazakhstan (Almaty and Nur-Sultan) and four new centers in Russia (Moscow, Kazan, Krasnodar, and Rostov-on-Don). We also embarked on the launch of a development center in Tbilisi, Georgia and new R&D centers at existing locations in Poland and Bulgaria. Our organic expansion was complemented by our above-mentioned acquisition of SFL, a leading Armenia-based software development company well known for its high-quality service and exceptional technical team in Yerevan.

As with the growth of our team, there is more to the geographic expansion story than the number of new and expanded locations. We were able to capture these strategic growth opportunities because of continual investment in our security, governance, and control systems, which has allowed us to scale up our operations quickly, sustainably, and controllably. We reached an important milestone in this area in 2021, passing the SOC 2 audit and receiving the SOC 2 Type II certification.

It is remarkable how much and in how many directions we have grown in 2021. We are exceedingly proud of our collective results and of every individual achievement. And while demand for our services remains high, nothing can be taken for granted. We must continue building on our strengths, investing in our people, preserving our culture, and striving to be our best as individuals and as a company.

Congratulations to all of us!
